FluencyTool
FluencyTool Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information the FluencyTool app (iOS, Android and web) collects, why, and the choices you have. My SenpAI LLC ("we", "us") publishes FluencyTool.
- You can use FluencyTool without an account. If you create one, we store your decks, cards, practice progress and settings so they sync across devices.
- Your voice recordings stay on your device. We never upload them to our servers.
- To score your speaking, the app uses your device's speech recognition service from Apple or Google.
- The free version shows ads through Google AdMob. We use Firebase to measure usage and crashes.
- You can delete your account and its synced data from inside the app.
Information we collect
If you create an account
| Information | Why we use it | Where it is stored |
|---|---|---|
| Email address and password (password stored only as a secure hash), or your Apple or Google sign-in identity and the email address it shares | Creating and signing in to your account | Supabase (our account and database provider) |
| Decks, cards and sentences you create or save, spaced-repetition progress, and app settings | Syncing your study data across your devices and restoring it if you reinstall | Supabase |
| Ad-free or premium status, and any voucher codes you redeem | Giving you access to what you bought or redeemed | Supabase |
If you use Sign in with Apple and choose "Hide My Email", we receive only Apple's relay address.
When you use the app (with or without an account)
| Information | Why we use it | Who processes it |
|---|---|---|
| Your voice while you practice speaking | Converting your speech to text so the app can compare it with the target sentence. The audio is handled by the speech recognition service built into your device, which may process it on the device or on Apple or Google servers under their own privacy policies. We do not receive or store this audio. | Apple (iOS) or Google (Android) |
| Content reports you choose to send: the sentence you are reporting, your comment, and your account ID if you are signed in | Fixing incorrect sentences, translations or readings | Google Firebase Realtime Database |
| Words you look up in the dictionary | Showing definitions. English lookups are sent to freedictionaryapi.com and kanji lookups to kanjiapi.dev. These requests contain the word and standard connection data such as your IP address, not your account details. | freedictionaryapi.com, kanjiapi.dev |
| Requests for lesson content, audio and dictionary files | Downloading study material to your device. Our server records standard log data such as IP address, time and file requested. | Our server at my-senpai.com (Amazon Web Services, Tokyo) |
| Usage events (screens viewed, features used, lesson or puzzle results, purchase and ad events), app version, device model, OS version, language, approximate country/region derived from your IP address, and an app-instance identifier | Understanding which features are used and fixing problems | Google Firebase Analytics |
| Crash reports: stack traces, device state at the time of the crash, and an installation identifier | Finding and fixing crashes | Google Firebase Crashlytics |
| Advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS only if you allow tracking; Android Advertising ID), IP address, device information, and ad interactions | Showing ads, limiting how often you see the same ad, measuring ad performance, and preventing fraud | Google AdMob |
Information that stays on your device
- Your voice recordings, which are saved only so you can play them back and compare them with native audio
- Your study history, progress and settings when you are not signed in
- Downloaded lesson content and dictionaries
Deleting the app deletes this information.
Device permissions
- Microphone: to record your speaking practice. Used only while you are recording.
- Speech recognition (iOS): to turn your speech into text for scoring.
- Notifications: for optional study reminders, scheduled on your device.
- Tracking (iOS): see Advertising.
You can turn off any permission in your device settings. Features that need that permission will stop working, but the rest of the app will not.
Advertising
The free version of FluencyTool shows ads through Google AdMob. Google and its advertising partners may use your device's advertising identifier and similar information to show ads, including ads based on your interests, and to measure ad performance. See How Google uses information from apps that use its services.
- iPhone and iPad: the app asks for permission before it uses your advertising identifier (App Tracking Transparency). If you tap "Ask App Not to Track", ads are still shown but are not personalized with that identifier. You can change this anytime in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android: you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads (the exact path varies by device).
- European Economic Area, UK and Switzerland: where the law requires your consent for personalized ads, we rely on your choices in your device settings and will only show personalized ads where permitted.
Purchases
In-app purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). If you buy on our website, Stripe processes the payment. We do not receive your full card number or bank details. We receive a purchase confirmation (product, date, transaction ID) so we can unlock what you bought and, if you are signed in, link it to your account.
Service providers we use
These companies process data on our behalf, or as independent providers, to make FluencyTool work. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Supabase: accounts and synced study data (Supabase Privacy Policy)
- Google Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics and Realtime Database (Firebase privacy and security, Google Privacy Policy)
- Google AdMob: advertising (How Google uses information from apps that use its services)
- Apple and Google: sign-in, speech recognition and in-app purchases (Apple Privacy Policy, Google Privacy Policy)
- Stripe: website payments (Stripe Privacy Policy)
- freedictionaryapi.com and kanjiapi.dev: dictionary lookups
- Amazon Web Services: hosting for our content server (AWS Privacy Notice)
We do not sell your personal information for money. Personalized advertising through AdMob may count as "sharing" or "targeted advertising" under some US state privacy laws. You can opt out by turning off ad tracking as described in the Advertising section.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a merger or sale of the business (in which case this policy continues to apply to your information).
How long we keep information
- Account and synced study data: kept while your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete this data from our active database. Backups may take up to 30 days longer to expire.
- Content reports: kept until the report has been reviewed and is no longer needed.
- Analytics and crash data: kept for the retention period set in Google Analytics and Firebase, then deleted automatically.
- Server logs: kept for a limited time for security and troubleshooting.
Your choices and rights
Delete your account: in FluencyTool, open Settings and choose the delete account option. This permanently deletes your account and its synced decks, cards, progress and settings. You can also email us to ask us to delete it for you.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to opt out of targeted advertising. This includes residents of the European Economic Area and the UK (GDPR), California and other US states with privacy laws, and Japan (APPI). To make a request, email fluencytool@my-senpai.com. We will respond within the time the law requires and will not treat you differently for using these rights. If you are in the EEA or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Where the GDPR applies, we process data to provide the app you asked for (contract), to keep it working, secure and improving (legitimate interests), and for personalized ads and similar uses only with your consent.
Children
FluencyTool is a general-audience learning app and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Where information is processed
My SenpAI LLC is registered in the United States. Our servers and service providers are located in the United States, Japan and other countries, so your information may be processed outside the country where you live. When we transfer personal information from the EEA or UK, we rely on our providers' legal transfer mechanisms, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including encrypted connections to our account and analytics providers. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the effective date. If a change is significant, we will also tell you in the app or on the app's store listing.
