Four tools. One fluency loop.

Most apps drill a single skill and leave the rest to you. Fluency Tool builds four in parallel — and each one sharpens the others.

Echo Fluency

Listen to a native sentence, repeat it, hear yourself, get graded. The full hands-free loop. Sentences you struggle with re-queue automatically.

Shadowing is what professional language learners do — listen to native audio and immediately repeat it. Echo Fluency automates the whole cycle.

今日きょう天気てんきがいいですね。

kyō wa tenki ga ii desu ne.

"The weather is nice today, isn't it?"

Tap mic · listen, then repeatAuto-record starts after the prompt plays.
1

Native sentence plays

A JLPT-graded sentence appears with furigana. High-quality cloud TTS plays the native audio. You listen.

2

Auto-record starts

The microphone opens automatically after playback. Just repeat. No tapping.

3

Your voice plays back

You hear yourself immediately. The gap between you and the native model becomes obvious — and that's where the improvement happens.

4

Instant evaluation

Speech-to-text grades your pronunciation. ✅ Correct → next sentence. ❌ Incorrect → re-queued until you nail it.

5

SRS schedules your return

Master a sentence five times and the review interval multiplies by 4×. Time goes to what needs work, not what you already own.

Three recording modes
Echo Fluency (Auto) — full hands-free cycle. Recommended.
Timed — TTS plays, then a fixed recording window opens.
Hold to Record — push-to-talk. Full manual control.

SM-2 spaced repetition — the same algorithm powering Anki — surfaces each card at the perfect moment. Zero time on words you already know.

How SM-2 works

Rate → schedule → review at the perfect moment

Again

Resets to Learning. Short interval. Ease drops.

Hard

Interval shrinks. Stays in Learning. Ease drops.

Medium

Standard SM-2. Interval × ease factor.

Easy

Interval extends further. Ease rises. Heads weekly.

💡 After 5+ correct reviews a card enters mature territory — multi-week intervals, no time wasted on what you already own.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you download.

Is Fluency Tool completely free?
Yes. Echo Fluency, all flashcard features, the full JLPT N5–N1 grammar guide, vocabulary games, and crosswords are completely free. There's an optional one-time purchase to remove banner ads — the full learning system costs nothing.
What JLPT levels does Fluency Tool cover?
All five JLPT levels — N5 (absolute beginner) through N1 (near-native advanced). Each is split into 5 sub-levels for 25 distinct content buckets. The Dashboard Roadmap shows your remaining new sentences across all 25.
What is Echo Fluency and how does it work?
The app's core speaking mode. A native sentence plays via cloud TTS, your mic opens automatically, your voice plays back, then speech-to-text compares your pronunciation. Correct sentences get scheduled for later. Missed ones re-queue. Hands-free.
How does the spaced repetition work?
Two SRS systems run in parallel. Flashcards use SM-2 (Anki's algorithm) with Again / Hard / Medium / Easy ratings that adjust intervals. Speaking sentences use a custom algorithm where mastering 5× triggers a 4× interval bonus.
Do I need prior Japanese knowledge to start?
Yes — you should be able to read hiragana and katakana. Once you can, set your level to N5 Sub-level 1 and the app starts with foundational vocabulary. Furigana displays above kanji. The onboarding wizard walks through every preference.
Does the app work offline?
Flashcard study, vocabulary games, and crossword puzzles work fully offline. Echo Fluency requires an internet connection for cloud TTS audio playback and speech-to-text evaluation. The grammar guide loads web content and needs connectivity.
Is there an iPhone version?
Not yet — Fluency Tool is Android-only today. iOS users can join the waitlist to be notified when a build ships. In the meantime, the web-based Grammar Library works on any device.
Can I use Fluency Tool alongside Kana Challenge?
Absolutely — they're a progression. Kana Challenge gets you reading hiragana and katakana fluently in 30 days. Once you know kana, Fluency Tool's Echo Fluency, flashcards, and grammar guide pick up from there.
